i keep losing my touch
i feel i'm never enough
so i thank you
now i ain't eating much
and i hate sleeping rough
so i thank you
i am so raring loved
i am dispairingly hugged
so i thank you
cause now it's barely enough
but i remember your touch
so i thank you

i keep losing mind
can't leave my troubles behind
so i thank you
i never drink or do drugs
my sober torture's too much
so i thank you
my shrink is speaking her mind
it seems so awfully unkind
so i thank you
cause now it's barely enough
but i remember your touch
so i thank you

i keep losing my way
i could just end it today
so i thank you
would be a funeral for one
i know that no-one would come
so i thank you
it's my epitome show
and i want the whole world to know
that i thank you
cause now it's barely enough
but i remember your touch
so i thank you

because you never know if my troubles are frightening
if i'm walking a rope that is tied up with lightning
this rope ain't a joke it's got a noose keeps on tightening
so i thank you

cause every touch of your heart
is like a whispering pillow
it reminds me i'm loved
that i'm not just some wierdo
every smile and embrace
gives me purpose and place
and so i thank you

cause now it's barely enough
but i remember your touch
it's barely enough
but i remember your touch
it's barely enough
but i remember your touch

so i thank you

this song makes strangers cry: one sunny sunday a spritely old man asked to sit beside me on the parkbench i was quietly playing my uke on. his old-man hands held a six-pack of some beer which i'd watched him carry from the supermarket across the street on which he'd walked. offering me one, introducing himself, and confiding he gets off the tram here every day to fill in time to avoid his wife — because she won't let him drink beer at home — he asked if i'd play him a song. i'd love to patrick, i replied. sometimes when you play a song you loose yourself entirely. you remove yourself from the world you're in and enter a timeless place and the most peaceful space i've ever known. in there, every five minutes can feel like 5 days, and on this day playing this song to a crowd of one-total-stranger, i closed my eyes for five and lost myself inside. and when all was done and my song was sung i opened my eyes to the stranger beside to see tears streaming from his. you've had a hard life he said, wiping away at his eyes. can you play it again please...

thank you was written on ukulele (low-G Romero ST Concert) in lots of different melbourne locations; though mostly on the little-laydown-lounge in my brunswick bedroom. i really loved that lounge: it saved my soul...
